This is a very modern and spacious facility to enjoy. The gym area is huge, theres an indoor track, tons of lockers everywhere that have passcodes you can put in, fun areas for the kids, and a very nice pool area with a steam room. Its also nice to have the current loop in the kids pool, and the splash pad connected. Very state of the art. There are certainly issues with this location though. The biggest issue being accessibility in the locker rooms. Its very upsetting to see that the locker rooms were designed to be so small, likely to cut corners and save money. As this is the newest facility in the GRA, its very upsetting to see the differences in this location, versus the older builds like northwest and bay view. The older builds have very spacious locker rooms with many showers, changing rooms with grab bars, and more than one specifically designed handicapped shower in each locker room. This location only has a small amount of regular showers, with only one large shower in both the mens and womens locker room. They are not labeled like they should be, Im not even sure how thats ADA compliant. People are also constantly stealing the shower chairs to use as shelves, and using the big showers just because they like the space, and not because they need it. There are no changing rooms with grab bars in the womens locker room. And I do tend to think that its very dirty in them. Also, I dont believe there are ANY showers with curtains in the family locker room, as I dont recall seeing any back in the summer, and parents are always bringing their young boys into the womens locker room, despite it being a female conforming space for all children over 1. Another example of the execs cutting corners to hoard money. Also, people are always throwing garbage on the floors. All that being said, the staff are super friendly here. The lifeguards are always helpful to wheelchair users, and the associate executive director was very understanding and friendly with me when I reached out about these concerns. Now the shower issue obviously cannot be resolved now. The building is already complete. I strongly encourage the YMCA company to keep accessibility in mind when building their next locations. These memberships are absolutely not cheap. Honestly they should be more affordable, especially since a few years ago, they cut off Medicaid support. It also would be nice if the weekend hours were extended, as this is the busiest location in the area. 6pm on a Saturday is just too early. Not everybody abides by a 9-5 schedule. All people of all abilities and financial status should be able to comfortably use the facilities.
